LDEO FTP server scheduled outage

    The LDEO FTP server (ftp.ldeo.columbia.edu) will be off line for several hours this Friday to allow for a disk space upgrade. Please check any automatic scripts for failures.

Clarification -- LDEO Mail Server Outage

The LDEO mail server still does support pine and dtmail -- you do not have to switch to another email client. You may need to make configuration changes.

Oceanography Network Outage

Because of a power failure on Monday 9/1/08, the network resources in Oceanographty bldg is unreachable.  This is effecting some personal web pages, and local imap/pop folders to be unavailable. There is no network connections for the oceanography users at this time. We are investigating the outage. At present, there is no estimated uptime.

Emergency DNS upgrade

Chaos will be down for 30 minutes at 8PM this evening to upgrade the DNS server. The backup server should take over with minor delays.

Email slowed to a halt this afternoon. The system was allowed to quiesce at
its own pace to prevent damage to mailboxes and restarted a little after

LDEO E-Mail Inboxes

We are cleaning out the mail spool directory for the main LDEO mail server. Mail for inactive accounts will be saved elsewhere. We believe this change will be transparent to everyone.

CU Network Update

Yesterday prior to the 10PM scheduled CU router replacement, the defective router crashed at about 4:40PM and our Verizon 100Mbit circuit to CU failed independently at about 5:35PM.

CU Network

The 100Mbps connection between Morningside campus and Lamont is currently down. This is due to a circuit problem with our provider, Verizon.
